THERE'S BEAUTY TO BE FOUND IN EVERY CRISIS
The importance of beauty in our livesIsabelle van Zeijl speaks about the importance and influence of beauty in our lives and how it became her life purpose. She explains the positive impact of her work on people and the sustainable vision behind her photographic fine art series created with discarded flowers. Van Zeijl invites you to open up a little bit more to each other: "Share your real stories, it will make a valuable impact on one's life. In order to do so, you have to believe that your story has value, dare to be vulnerable. It takes courage, the courage to connect. Ask yourself to be courageous and reach into your soul for greatness and find that beauty is always there to reconnect you with your soul's voice." -
The Rebirth Of The Dutch Flower
New Photo Series Highlights Plight Of Flower IndustryDuring the COVID-19 crisis, Dutch Fine Art Photographer Isabelle van Zeijl visited local flower growers to explore how she could shine a light on an industry that is suffering an 80% loss of income. The growers were keen on a collaboration with Van Zeijl with one grower suggesting that "life is cyclical, like nature. After every difficulty there is always ease. We choose to share, collaborate in order to grow together." Isabelle van Zeijl's previous work has explored the prejudices against women from general misogyny, including sex discrimination, to sexual objectification and violence against women. She takes past ideals of female beauty and subverts them for use in a contemporary context. These ideas are also represented in her new series inspired by her visits to local growers, The Rebirth of the Dutch Flower. This series of photographs using discarded flowers from her local growers, highlights the unfortunate mass destruction during the current world lockdown. But the enigmatic photographs are also a celebration of hope as they give the flowers new life by suggesting renewal, rebirth and reinvention. As Van Zeijl explains, "flowers grow out of dark moments, the more difficulties, the more beautiful they become, they always tend to grow towards the light." -

Raising awareness about Ocean Pollution -
TRASH INTO TREASURE
Isabelle van Zeijl's Ocean Collection raises awareness about Ocean PollutionAncient and primal, the ocean, our mother of mothers. The origin of all life on Earth, the greatest symbol of fertility and birth. We evolved and emerged from there, ready to conquer land. No other natural feature has sparked as much fascination — and fear — as The Ocean. Being an adventurer at heart, I fulfilled this yearning to explore the haunting beauty of the sea. I traveled to the beautiful islands of The Bahamas, dived into the great unknown, to create a photographic series. I collected discarded fish nets and plastics which I found on the islands. I used this trash to transform it into treasure in my portraits. Inviting the viewer to raise their awareness about ocean pollution.

The making of The Ocean Collection
I wanted to shine a light on the enormous amounts of trash floating in our oceans. As I wandered around the islands I saw trash everywhere, discarded fish nets, plastic bottles and plastic bags tangled in trees. I collected some of the nets and wore the nets as an elegant dress during the photo shoot. I literally swam in waste, transformed into something beautiful. As an artist, I use my ability to create approachable, engaging, and beautiful entry points into complex issues such as environmental issues. I asked myself, how can I use my creativity to inspire new thinking, how can I encourage viewers to raise their awareness and use the power we have to create change. The Ocean Collection reflects the changes in our environment and can inspire us to take small and large actions to positively shape the change.

THE MAKING OF THE MOONSHOT COLLECTION
Finding Wild BeautyWe sense more then we see in Isabelle van Zeijl's Moonshot Collection, where she embarked upon a complex and long personal journey to find, in the wild beauty of horses, meaning in her own life. The spiritual significance of the horse has long held meaning in many cultures, past and present. It is about overcoming obstacles and facing adversity and is meant to remind us to take care of our emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Isabelle's journey took her to the American West, she travelled upon a horseback in search for the iconic American symbol: the wild horse, who still live freely on the Western rangelands. Her journey and the meaningful relationship between horses and humans inspired her to investigate and dive deep and she created a series self-portraits with horses. In aspen, Colorado she photographed herself with horses. Every night she stood naked in the moonlight, in the trembling cold. It was a long and enduring process as Isabelle attempted to gain the horses' trust before she could be the artist. To do so, she had to completely surrender herself and, in her journey, she found courage and humility; and rather than teach the horses to trust her, she learned trust from them and surrendered herself in ways she never knew possible; in seeking to achieve the impossible, she reached for the stars-and finally touched them. The result is a series of self-portraits of such unsettling beauty that only the subdued monochromatic palette of undulating contrasts of light and dark-sometimes stark, other times with the luster of charmeuse silk-impose peace and calm.
